Werd I remember those days but seriously follow this man!!
Posted this at FA, but post it here too: So I got a rejection letter for our next book Dragonlast. :/ a bit of frustration.
This is the email I got From Diamond:
»On DragonLast. I have distributed the samples throughout our department and unfortunately it does not look like something we would want to list at this time. It appears to be a title that would succeed in overseas markets and not in comic shops in the United States. We have seen comparable material solicited through Previews and retailers which have not been supported by retailers. At this point this is not something we would be willing to list.
The book feels very condensed. There does not seem to be much character development. The framing device with the old man who is telling the story to a group of children feels awkward because it takes the reader completely out of the story. There are times when the book does not feel that it is paced at the same tempo. A reader might be reading along with pages where there are sparse amounts of text and then they will hit a wall of text.
This title really feels more like a manga in the art style and story telling. Some companies have tried to recreate the success of manga titles but when the books are from the United States, historically, we have those titles not supported by retailers.
While I know Manga and American Manga companies are not doing as well as they used to. But really? They Feel this: Girls with Corpses http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/1/71/952?stockItemID=JUN131508 is clearly what the market wants over Dragonlast (Dragonlast previews on my Tumblr): http://jasoncanty01.tumblr.com/search/Dragonlast
Now I know their is a fetish market for women next to dead bodies (I heard about this book years ago). But apparently they don’t think that Dragonlast will make the sales minimum over women and dead bodies. >_< Ughhh Thing is this is not even the best art. Diamond got the full preview, and (http://satanasov.deviantart.com/ ) who has worked for EA and UBI Soft and can pump out 3 pages A DAY like this.
This greatly interferes with our Fall listings. As the other books are still not yet ready, and Evil Diva is taking a break for the new artist to catch up and to figure out how to make sure #3 sells as good as #1.
Now for those of you that may say “why not go digital” we do, do Digital, and yes while it does cut down on Print costs, our following online just isn’t strong enough to help sustain the company. We’d need 1000 sale to sort of break even compared to the 450-500 we’d need to sell through Diamond. While this is annoying, Diamond still has the best reach for us at this time. If we where larger then maybe eh forget them but we’re not. Really only Image,DC,Marvel and Dark Horse can say forget Diamond and yet they still don’t.
To see more of a preview check out my Tumblr http://jasoncanty01.tumblr.com/search/Dragonlast Now I don’t think Dragonlast will be the great new thing In manga, but still compared to what is out there, Manga and American style comic, it to me seems to be inline. We’d be greatly willing to make changes if we had more to go on than “it has a wall of text”. Its not like we went into this expecting to have it all fine on the first try. We’re supposed to have a back and forth working relationship since we want to make money, and they want to make money off of us making money.
Oh Diamond that’s why so many comic creators hate you. Your policies kinda suck
Some Vampire x Kinu Nishimura love
Everyone’s always “Harley Quinn” this and “Poison Ivy” that, but no one’s all “Livewire” this and “Mercy Graves” that.
(Why did I take so many caps? I don’t even like Livewire that much. Did they even use her in the comics?)
Where’s the love for the cool Supes villians. Plus it Lori Petty
Hey guys. I just got the file back from Peter of Lab Zero. He had his Audio guy Vince Process the file to make it sound just like peacock. Here is what Vince said he did to do it.
For the basic sound handling, it’s Sound Forge. The processing is a sort of script of filters in a program called Absynth which is pretty popular among music makers. It’s not a normal roboticize type filter… the basic idea was to create a sort of robotic effect by just using EQ. So there’s a bunch of EQ filters notching out 60 Hz and harmonics on integer multiples…
Anyway, I want to put this up on a site so you guys can Play around with it,like put it to video, add the music, and such. If you want it, Ask me, and I’ll send it to you.
This is gdlk I loves me some Peacock
